BBB Cycling Introduces Range of Plant Based, Biodegradable Bike Care Products
Part of the Dutch brands goal of becoming a Net Zero emissions company by 2030
28th August, The Hague, BBB Cycling, the Dutch bicycle parts, components, and accessories brand, has announced the official launch of their 'Bio' range of bike care products. An assortment of products for assembly, maintenance and cleaning that are entirely plant-based, biodegradable within 28 days, and free of PTFEs, petrochemicals, and microplastics.
The products utilise novel applications of plant-based materials to ensure their efficiency, for example the BioSeal tyre sealant features cellulose fibres and natural latex, both derived from sugar beet, working in tandem to help plug punctures. For the ranges lubrication and grease products a variety of natural waxes and locally produced oils such as rapeseed oil are used.
As well as their sustainable ingredients, the products are packaged in 100% recycled PET packaging with labels printed using environmentally friendly, plant-based soy inks. Designed for use by both professional and home mechanics, the products are available in personal and workshop size quantities.
BBB Cycling has long been a proponent of the need for the cycling industry to become more sustainable. The brand has measured its carbon footprint since 2015 and been CO2 neutral through offsetting since 2018. However, BBB recognises the need to go further and is committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2030.
To achieve this, BBB is taking an exhaustive approach to all elements of its carbon footprint. Product developments such as the Bio range form part of this, as does its growing use of recycled materials and bio-plastics throughout the brand’s wider range of parts, components and accessories.
This, however, forms just one part of the operation. BBB is also making ongoing developments in environmentally-friendly packaging, manufacturing and encouraging commitments from its distribution and retail partners to adopt more sustainable practices.
